Common mode choke for automotive Ethernet standard 10Base
TDK Corporation introduces the ACT1210E series, according to the vendor the industry's first common mode chokes for automotive Ethernet standard 10Base-T1S. Main application areas are automotive Ethernet data communication systems.
The common mode choke is based on a specially developed winding structure and optimised materials. As a result, the ACT1210E choke achieves the industry's best S-parameters (stray parameters) and a maximum line-to-line capacitance of 10 pF. The operating temperature range extends from -40 ℃ to +125 ℃. Laser welding of the winding wires to the connection terminals ensures high thermal shock resistance.
Autonomous driving vehicles are characterised by a high number of electronic control units (ECUs) for safety functions, including those for driver assistance systems (ADAS). Among Ethernet communication standards, 10Base-T1S is unique in its support for multi-drop topologies that allow multiple ECUs to be connected. Therefore, the standard differs from 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1, which only support peer-to-peer telecommunications. More and more customers are considering switching from the currently commonly used CAN, CAN-FD and Flex-Ray standards to Ethernet systems, as they support multi-drop connections and thus a unification of standards can be achieved.
In addition to its compact dimensions (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm), the component is characterised by high reliability, which is achieved by manufacturing using laser welding of the winding wires. The product complies with the requirements of the automotive standard for passive components AEC-Q200 Rev. D.
